One of the biggest mysteries of our time is the identity of the woman sitting in Da Vinci’s
master piece: The ‘Mona Lisa’. Some have said she is the wife of Francesco del Giocondo
and others have said it’s a transvestite but the director of the Heidelberg University library Veit Probst disagrees. According to him the person in the picture is Lisa Gherardini the wife of a textile trader in Florence.
A documentary about this discovery which aired in Germany showed this discovery being made two and a half years ago. So what is the proof to support this theory? They found a clue regarding the identity on a document written by the original owner of the ‘Mona Lisa’.
I myself, am at peace now! I mean it was quite strange to have people saying that the ‘Mona Lisa’ was a guy etc… so now that we are aware of whom it really is, maybe the guesses will stop.

I don’t think it really matters who it is. It’s famous because it’s ambiguous. Divining all its secrets kind of takes the magic away.
